Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF)

RUTF is a nutritious food in peanut butter form but more than the ordinary peanut butter that you can buy in grocery stores. It is composed of ingredients like peanut butter paste, powdered milk, coconut oil, soya oil and micronutrients premix. It is full of protein and energy-giving nutrients that the children need.

RUTF is intended for children ages 6 months to 5 years old who are severely and moderately malnourished. The objective of this program is to get these children out from that crucial phase of malnutrition by giving them a very nutritious food, packed with micronutrients and minerals.

In this program, the beneficiaries are monitored weekly and were given weekly supplies of RUTF until they achieve healthy status in a maximum of 3 months of treatment.

RUTF is introduced to PAOFI in 2010 thru Project Peanut Butter (PPB), a non-government, non-profit organization established by a Pediatrician, Dr. Mark Manary in 2004. PPB aims to provide nutritious meals that will eradicate severe malnutrition in children. In 2000-2004, Dr. Manary and Dr. Andre Briend experimented different ingredients until they finally formulated the food that can possibly end severe malnutrition. This food is now known as Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF).

Since 2010, thousands of severely and moderately undernourished children were already catered and treated. As of the present, RUTF is continuously produced and distributed to the children beneficiaries not only in Payatas but also in other areas of Quezon City, Caloocan and provinces like Tarlac, Pangasinan, Quezon and Rizal.
